Fuel Price Checker
Petrol and diesel prices, and why they differ.
How this tool will work
At launch, check today's petrol, diesel and CNG prices for your city, with history and trends. Until then, the explainer below covers the essentials.
Why your city pays more
Two neighbours can pay different prices: state VAT is the biggest reason (some states charge 25%+, others far less), followed by freight from refineries.
Track before long drives
On inter-state trips, filling up in a low-VAT state on the route can save hundreds of rupees per tank. Prices update at 6 AM daily.

Example
Example: the same litre of petrol can cost ₹8–10 more in Mumbai than in Delhi, mostly because of state VAT differences.
FAQs
Why do fuel prices differ by city?
States levy different VAT rates, and transport costs vary. So Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai always show different prices for the same fuel.
When do prices change?
Prices are revised daily at 6 AM based on international crude and currency movement, plus any tax changes.
What makes up the pump price?
Base refinery price + central excise + state VAT + dealer commission. Taxes usually form more than half of what you pay.
